Hi Cindy,
I consider myself to be a reasonable person as well and I believe God created us to be rational beings. I am certainly not suggesting that we set reason aside. It is reason that sets us on our quest for the Truth.
God’s plan of salvation..Christ Crucified…is a stumbling block for some and foolishness to others. And yet this is God’s sovereign plan which emanates from His love and His grace. What I was trying to get at with the above poem is that God’s grace can be overanalyzed to the point of doubt or disbelief.
There was a time in my life when I was audacious enough to believe that I did not need God’s grace or that perhaps I could earn my own salvation. It is so humbling to come to a point when we see our need for salvation and realize that God’s grace is the only answer.
Our intellectual pursuits are not suppressed but they do make room for supernatural revelation in the heart and soul. Faith and reason can peacefully co-exist but when we put our human wisdom above God’s, a barrier exists in our ability to perceive and receive God’s grace.
I’ve been thinking about this quote from C.H. Spurgeon: “Faith is reason at rest.” I interprete “rest” to mean ‘peace’.

My thoughts… certainly reason has gotten me in trouble, especially when it comes to God’s Will.. and lack of reason as well.
It has been my experience, God’s Will is done, no matter what we do to screw things up. I should know… I keep hitting my head on that wall!!! SO, the wisdom in your second stanza is well said.
True ‘wisdom’ comes from God, and when that is pursued in truth, both will peacefully coexist, I AGREE!!! When set as the ‘standard’ reason can derail a relationship with God as well. It’s not like us to find true balance. The walk of a christian, I believe wanders the road from one ditch to the other, and we spend little time in the middle.
If we keep our eyes on heaven too long, we miss out on what God has created and planned for us here, which, I find to be amazing, even the trials. The greatest blessings in my life came from what I thought would be very enreasonable circumcstances. I have the Faith that God has a better vantage point.
I have to… or nothing would make sense!!! : ) Thank you for mentioning your response.. I always try to get back when I comment, but have had myself, and a child with mono the last several weeks!!! we are on the mend though.

It took me a very long time to get it. It’s so difficult for many of us to put our self-reliance, our knowldge, and our ego to the side long enought to allow God’s grace to penetrate our hardened hearts.
